The Gulf Coast doesn’t ease into boating season. One warm weekend and everyone is at the ramp. Before you back the trailer down, it’s worth asking: is your boat ready?

Is It Time to Repower?
If your outboard has been giving you trouble, the start of a new season is the right time to have an honest conversation about repowering. Diminishing performance, increased fuel consumption, frequent breakdowns and excessive smoking are all signs your motor is running inefficiently and putting another season of maintenance into it may not be worth the cost.
Our most recent blog covers the reliability and lasting performance of a Suzuki 4-stroke and why it’s worth the upgrade. When you’re ready, contact our team.
Schedule a Preseason Inspection
Not ready for a repower? A preseason inspection is the best thing you can do before your first run of the season. Our factory-certified technicians identify and solve small problems before they turn into costly repairs. Gulf Coast Suzuki services all makes and models.
Here’s what we check:
- Battery condition — a weak battery ends the day early
- Bilge pumps — your first line of defense against water intake
- Live well pumps and operation — critical for anyone fishing this season
- Wiring condition / signs of rodent damage — dormant boats are a target, and damaged wiring is a fire hazard
- Fuel system condition — fresh fuel and a clean system after off-season degradation
- Oil levels, water flow and shifting condition — fundamental for a healthy outboard
- Throttle/shift cables — corrosion can cause failure on the water
- Steering system — smooth and reliable is non-negotiable

Don’t Overlook Your Safety Gear
Safety gear has expiration dates too. While your boat is being serviced is the right time to check the boxes.

Here’s what to review before you launch:
- Engine cutoff lanyard switch — required on boats under 26 feet; verify it works
- Pyrotechnic flares — expire 42 months after manufacture; replace if needed
- Fire extinguishers — 12-year expiration on disposables; check the date
- Life jackets — must be properly sized and in wearable condition
- Smoke, carbon monoxide, fume and bilge alarms — test before you go
- Running lights — check operation and keep spare bulbs on board
- First-aid kit — replenish anything used or expired from last season
